SAN JOSE — Johan Salazar recovered a late fumble caused by Diallo Thomas, and the Pirates earned a first down and kneeled on the ball to secure the nonleague win.

The Pirates are off to a 2-0 start for the second time in as many seasons.

Harbor led 17-0 at the half, but the Comets responded with 16 straight points in the second half.  The Pirates added a late touchdown for some breathing room.

Jeovany Linares ran for more than 100 yards and scored two touchdowns, both on runs. He scored from 12 and 5 yards out. Thomas scored on a 5-yard run.

On defense, Harbor’s Ferris Vitali had two interceptions and a forced fumble. Thomas recovered Vitali’s lone fumble and forced two fumbles. Senior Leo LoBue, and Salazar, a sophomore who was pulled up from junior-varsity earlier in the week, made fumble recoveries.

Along with Salazar, a wide receiver, the Pirates pulled up Andres Mendoza (OL/DL), Max Falconer (WR/DB) and David Quintanilla (RB/LB).

The Pirates play at Saratoga (1-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Falcons are coming off a 48-34 loss to Willow Glen.
