SARATOGA — Harbor High’s football team did its best to overcome a slow start on both sides of the ball Saturday night, but it dropped from the unbeaten ranks after suffering a 21-14 loss to Saratoga at Benny Pierce Field.
The Pirates (2-1) turned the ball over on its final possession, and had an apparent touchdown negated by a holding penalty. They also appeared to make a pair of fumble recoveries in the first half, but the officials’ rulings didn’t work in their favor.
Harbor running back Diallo Thomas rushed for 81 yards and a pair of second-half touchdowns on 10 carries, and teammate Jeovany Linares gained 95 yards on 15 carries.
Seth Hulme, a 6-foot-3 safety, stripped Pirates quarterback Nico Edler and the Falcons’ Kaleb Andrews recovered it near midfield in the final minute. Harbor lineman Manny Nolasco was knocked unconscious during a collision as Andrews attempted to score on the fumble recovery. The injury forced a lengthy delay before Saratoga kneeled on the ball on the final play to kill the remainder of the game clock.
“I’m not big for moral victories, but we played hard. The Saratoga Falcons are leaving knowing who they played tonight,” Harbor coach Gustavo Ramirez said. Click here for full article.
